Canada considers tightening border policies

In light of changes in the United States political landscape, Canadian officials are considering much stricter border policies to address possible increases in refugee arrivals. Policy experts recommend that Ottawa communicate any forthcoming entry restrictions for asylum-seekers from the US. This approach represents a significant shift from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's more open stance in 2017. Proposed policy adjustments include eliminating the 14-day exemption for refugee claims, implementing an out-of-country application process, and reassessing the status of "sanctuary cities."
