Canada experienced an increase in spousal immigration in 2023

Compared to 2022, the previous year recorded a notable surge in Canadian immigrants through the spousal sponsorship program, as seen in the IRCC data. In 2023, Canada welcomed 75,185 new permanent residents, a 17.2% increase from 64,145 in 2022. Interestingly, this increment outpaced the overall immigration growth of 7.8% in Canada. The final quarter of 2023 alone witnessed a 27.4% rise in spouses and common-law partners. Ontario continued to be the province with the most arrivals through this program, receiving 39,820 spouses last year.
