Canada may fast-track immigration applications from Turkiye and Syria

Canada's Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser, stated that the Government of Canada may fast-track applications for Turkish and Syrian nationals. In the southwestern corner of Turkey, a catastrophic earthquake caused widespread destruction and decimated thousands of buildings in Turkey and Syria. The United Nations has estimated that 5,800 individuals died in Syria alone; Turkish authorities estimate 35,418 fatalities within their borders. In response to the humanitarian crisis, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) investigates the potential impacts of expediting Syrian and Turkish applications.
