A recent analytical portrait released by Statistics Canada highlights the evolving sociodemographic landscape of Black populations in Canada. The study reveals that Black People now represent a growing proportion of racialized populations, with their numbers more than doubling since 1996 to 1.5 million in 2021. Notably, 41% of Black people were born in Canada, while African-born Black populations have surpassed Caribbean-born counterparts in size. The diversity within this group is remarkable, with Black people in Canada reporting origins from approximately 182 different countries, showcasing the rich tapestry of experiences and backgrounds within the community.
