According to Canada's 2025-2027 Immigration Levels Plan, the nation's housing shortage is expected to decrease significantly. The plan, which aims to reduce permanent resident admissions and temporary resident numbers, could potentially cut the housing gap by 534,000 units (45%) by 2030. This projectioncomes alongside a forecast of population decline in 2025 and 2026, primarily driven by an expected exodus of 2.8 million temporary residents. The government estimates that closing the remaining housing gap of 658,000 units would require approximately 390,000 new housing completions annually between 2025 and 2030.
