The Ontario Superior Court of Justice has extended the deadline for the federal government to amend the unconstitutional law affecting "lost Canadians" until December 19. This extension, the second of its kind, gives Ottawa additional time to pass Bill C-71, which aims to rectify issues preventing some Canadians born abroad from passing citizenship to their children. Justice Jasmine Akbarali highlighted the importance of addressing urgent hardship cases during the extension, ensuring that the delay does not undermine confidence in the justice system. The government previously missed the initial June 20 deadline for amending the Citizenship Act.
