Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) projects that over 588,000 Non-Permanent Residents (NPRs) will either depart Canada or transition to permanent residency by the end of 2024. This forecast, part of Canada's strategy to manage NPR levels, aims to reduce the NPR population to 5% of the total Canadian population in the coming years. Despite these outflows, IRCC expects a net increase of nearly 300,000 NPRs this year, bringing the total to 2.9 million, or 7.1% of Canada's population. The department also outlined plans for new NPR inflows, anticipating over 887,000 new temporary residents by year-end.
